Our process
The Bedbug Treatment Process, Step by Step
What happens, and when
Knowing what to expect makes treatment easier for everyone in the household or building. Here is the full process from first contact to aftercare.
1. Your enquiry
Call, WhatsApp or use the quotation form. We'll ask about the property type and location, which rooms are affected, what you have seen and for how long, and anything you have already tried. Photos help.
2. Inspection and assessment
A technician inspects beds, furniture and likely hiding places to confirm bedbugs and judge how far they have spread. In flats and hotels, adjoining units or rooms may be checked too. See bedbug inspection.
3. Your treatment plan and quotation
We explain the recommended approach, the preparation you need to do, the re-entry arrangements, any limitations, and the price. For an active infestation this is normally the two-treatment eradication programme, and you receive the written guarantee terms with the quotation.
4. Preparation
You prepare the affected rooms following the instructions for your treatment method. See the principles below and our detailed preparation guide.
5. First treatment
The technician treats the bed, frame, furniture and the hiding places identified, using products and methods suited to the situation and permitted by their labels. You will be told how long to stay out of treated rooms.
6. The six days between visits
- Stay out of treated rooms for the re-entry period you are given, then ventilate as directed.
- Return to sleeping in your own bed when it is safe to do so.
- Don't clean treated surfaces or apply your own products unless the technician agrees.
- Expect to see some bedbugs for a short while as hidden bugs come out.
7. Second treatment — six days after the first
The second visit targets bedbugs that survived the first treatment and nymphs that have hatched from eggs in the meantime. Where the two-treatment programme has been quoted, this visit is an essential part of the service.
8. Aftercare and prevention
You'll receive guidance on monitoring, laundry, encasements and reducing the risk of re-introduction, plus what to do if you see signs again. See how to reduce the risk of bedbugs returning.
Safety principles we follow
- Products are selected and applied according to their labels.
- We do not publish a single re-entry time for every case, because it depends on the product, method and ventilation. You get the specific instruction for your treatment.
- Tell us about anyone pregnant, very young, elderly, asthmatic or unwell, and about pets and fish, before the visit.
- Please don't mix or add your own pesticides before or between visits.
How it works
From first call to follow-up, in four clear stages
You will know what is happening, what you need to do and what it costs at every step.
- 1

Initial enquiry
We ask about the property, which rooms are affected, what you have seen and any treatments already tried, so the visit is planned properly.

Evidence-based, room by room
Inspection and assessment
The technician checks beds, furniture and likely hiding places to confirm activity and judge how far it has spread, including adjoining rooms where relevant.

Quotation and written guarantee terms
Treatment plan
You get the recommended approach, preparation requirements, the quotation and any limitations explained plainly before work starts — then the two treatments, six days apart.

Aftercare and monitoring advice
Follow-up and prevention
Aftercare guidance, re-entry instructions for the products used, and clear advice on monitoring and on whether any further visit is necessary.
Preparation and safety
Getting ready for treatment, safely
Follow the technician's preparation instructions
Preparation depends on the treatment method. You will be told exactly what to do for your property before the first visit.
Handle bedding and laundry as directed
Bag bedding and clothing as instructed and launder them according to the plan, rather than moving them to other rooms.
Keep children and pets away from treated areas
Keep them out of treated rooms for as long as the technician directs. Cover or remove fish tanks and pet food if asked to.
Observe the specified re-entry period
Re-entry time depends on the product label, method and ventilation. You will be told the period for your specific treatment.
Avoid mixing or over-applying pesticides
Do not add your own sprays or powders before or between visits unless the technician agrees. More product does not mean better control.
Follow the label and safety instructions
The product label is a legal document. Professional products are applied only as their labels permit, and so should any household product you use.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
How should I prepare my bedroom?
Preparation depends on the treatment plan, and you will receive specific instructions before the visit. Common steps include reducing clutter around the bed, bagging bedding and clothing for laundering as directed, and clearing access to bed frames, skirting and furniture.
Please do not move furniture or belongings to other rooms before the visit, as this can spread bedbugs. See our full preparation guide.
How long does professional bedbug treatment take?
The length of each visit depends on the number of rooms, beds and furniture to be treated, and we will give you an estimate when we book. Our standard programme involves two treatment visits six days apart, so the full programme spans about a week, plus any re-entry period stated for the products used.
Do I need to leave the house during treatment?
Usually, yes. People and pets should stay out of the rooms being treated during the treatment and for the re-entry period the technician gives you. That period depends on the products and method used, so it is confirmed for your specific treatment rather than being a fixed number of hours.
When can I return to a treated room?
The technician will tell you the re-entry time for your treatment before they leave. It varies with the product label, the method and ventilation, so we do not publish a single re-entry time that applies to every case. Follow the specific instructions you are given.
Can I sleep on my mattress after treatment?
In most cases you can keep using your bed once the re-entry period has passed and the technician has confirmed it is safe to do so. Whether a mattress is treated directly, and what you should do afterwards, depends on its condition and on the product labels. Never apply household insecticide to your mattress yourself unless the label clearly permits it.
Is a follow-up treatment necessary?
For an active infestation, yes. Our programme includes a second treatment six days after the first because eggs that survived the first visit can hatch into new nymphs. Where the two-treatment programme has been quoted, the second visit is an essential part of the service, not an optional extra.
