Inspection and assessment
Bedbug Inspection and Infestation Assessment

Why start with an inspection?
Treatment only works if it reaches the bedbugs. An inspection answers the questions that determine the right plan:
- Are these actually bedbugs? Bites alone cannot confirm it — mosquitoes, fleas, mites and skin conditions cause similar marks.
- Where are they? Which beds, furniture and rooms are affected.
- How established is the infestation? A few bugs in one mattress need a different plan from activity across several rooms.
- Is anything nearby involved? In flats and hotels, neighbouring units or rooms may need checking too.
What the technician checks
The inspection follows the places bedbugs prefer, working outward from where people sleep:
- Mattress seams, piping, labels and tufts.
- Bed bases, frames, slats, joints and headboards.
- Bedside furniture, drawers and wardrobes.
- Sofas, chairs and cushions.
- Skirting boards, cracks, curtain folds, sockets and wall hangings.
- Other rooms where evidence suggests activity.
The evidence we look for includes live bedbugs, eggs, shed skins and dark faecal spots. You can see what this looks like in our guide to identifying bedbugs in your mattress and bedroom.
What you get from the inspection
- A clear answer on whether bedbugs are present, with the evidence pointed out to you.
- The rooms and furniture affected.
- The recommended treatment approach — usually the two-treatment programme for an active infestation.
- Preparation requirements and a quotation.
If no evidence is found, we will tell you, and suggest what else might be causing the problem. For other pests, Pestraid Kenya can help.
Helping us before the visit
- Don't clean, vacuum or spray the bed in the days before the inspection — it removes evidence.
- Don't move furniture or bedding to other rooms.
- Take photos of anything you find, and keep any captured insect on clear sticky tape.
Inspections for businesses
For hotels, rental blocks and hostels, inspections can be carried out room by room, with findings recorded for management. See hotel bedbug control and commercial bedbug control.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
How do I know whether I have bedbugs?
Look for small dark spots along mattress seams and bed-frame joints, pale shed skins, tiny white eggs, and live insects in folds, cracks and furniture joints. A musty smell can occur in heavier infestations.
Itchy marks on the skin alone cannot confirm bedbugs, because other insects and skin conditions cause similar reactions. Our guide on how to identify bedbugs in your mattress and bedroom shows what to check, or book a professional inspection.
How much does bedbug control cost in Nairobi?
Residential treatment is charged per visit by the size of your home: studio/bedsitter KSh 4,500, 1 bedroom KSh 5,500, 2 bedrooms KSh 6,500, 3 bedrooms KSh 7,500 and 4 bedrooms KSh 8,500.
Every programme includes two visits, six days apart, so the full programme is twice the per-visit price — for example KSh 13,000 for a 2-bedroom home. Larger homes, hotels and commercial premises are quoted individually. See the price list.
Do you treat apartments and rental properties?
Yes. We treat individual apartments and work with landlords, agents and property managers on multi-unit buildings, where inspecting neighbouring units is often important. See commercial and property management bedbug control.
